First day back to school

So the boys started back today. We had a tough time getting out the door on time but we barely made it. We've been spoiled over the holidays and have enjoyed our lazy mornings. Alex started to cry when we got to the school - no tears, it was like he was trying to be brave. But then he saw his principle, who (or whom, I never know!) he has attached himself to, and ran to grab his hand and head down the hallway! So all was well!!

Adam was excited to see all of his buddies. As he got out of the car, he told his teacher, "I got a Wii for Christmas, and a gun!" I heard her say, "oh", so I quickly rolled down my window and said, "it's a cap gun!" She looked at me and laughed.

Alex has been staying up late if he naps so I decided not to put him down for one today, plus he was in the most awesome mood. Adam and I were playing Wii around 5, while Alex watched, and I left the basement to start dinner. Not even 5 minutes goes by and Adam yells, "Mom! Alex is asleep!" So I finished what I was doing and headed down there. I could not get him to wake up! I put him on the changing table thinking a diaper change would help, but no, he kept sleeping! I let him lay there, with his pants around his ankles for about 10 minutes. Then he still wouldn't stay awake. So I put on one of his favorite shows and that finally got him going. It's 8:53 right now and I'm hoping he's asleep! UGH! I hate this transition.

Ready to start 2010 right!!

I've been wanting to blog forever so I decided that January 1, 2010 is the right date to start. The reasons are simple - the boys are doing and saying so much and I want to journal it all. I'll make it available for those who would like to read, but really it's a way for me to record.

Update Adam - oh, he has been a stinker! Really mouthly but only to me! Dad strikes the fear of God in him which bugs the hell out of me. Christmas was the most fun with him. We had a visitor from the North Pole come and stay at our house. Elf on a Shelf came to our door at the beginning of December. After much thinking (and a few suggestions from mom), Adam named the elf, "Elf Phineas"! We had a lot of fun trying to find him every morning. And surprise - he even showed up at Grammy & Pappy's house in Calif.! Adam almost cried on Christmas Eve when we explained that Phineas would be leaving that night. Alex didn't seem to care or get what was going on. I'm hoping next year he will.

Adam loved everything he got for Christmas, except the books I got him - go figure! His favorites are the Wii from Santa - getting lots of play time, his Spiderman sleeping bag from Grammy & Pappy, and his cap gun and holster (he calls it a gun slot!) from Alex, thanks to Cabela's. We'll celebrate with Grandma & Papa in two weeks. The boys won't know what to do with themselves when there are no more gifts to open!

Alex is all about his trains. He got some new wooden trains for his Thomas collection and more Thomas Legos. He also loves watching Adam play Wii, especially Mario Kart, which he calls, "cars". It's driving Travis crazy that he just wants to sit and watch. I keep telling him to just give him time.

He's talking more and more. I see improvement every day. His requests are more detailed and personal and his answers are improving (usually his just answers with the last words of our question, like "do you want milk?", and he says "milk"). He's giving us more which is great. He still is so darned funny. The way he says things and responds to things is hysterical. Lately, when we put on a show for him, he turns to either of us and says, "Mommy/Daddy to leave" which we are assuming to mean, "get the hell out of here and give me my space!". He is showing that some things on shows scare him. He leaves the livingroom, and hides in the office doorway, so he can still see the TV but is "hiding"!

Christmas was great. We were in California and the kids had so much fun with their cousins. It was great to see Adam continue to bond with Zack & Jessi and Alex is coming out more and more. He loves my dad. Carey's twins were hysterical - so funny and so active! The boys had lots of chances to play outside and get dirty, got a chance to ride a pony (Alex wasn't interested) and Santa came to visit on Christmas Eve at Grammy's! We ended the trip with an overnight stay in San Fran and a swim in an indoor pool. We have two little fishies on our hands!

We returned home Tuesday, the 29th, and had our own Christmas.
